A way to keep order in the world of web 2.0. As librarians we LOVE order, so we should love tagging. My own experience is through photographs on Facebook.

I love this. Such potential to use so much of our image collection to reach a new audience. Not so sure about Flickr.  So many of my photos contain friends who may not wish to be published.  I don’t tag photos on facebook for the same reason.

Learning 2.0 Discovery number 3 Web 2.0

Such a challenge to think about the speed of change, and the possiblities for librarianship. From ready reference to google to user-created content. In my studies, I was after the card catalogue, but before the Internet. The challenge for us all to adapt, and to make sure the next generation are right up to speed.

My favourite – RSS feeds. As I said earlier, I don’t know how I got by without one.

Last day of the SA Public Libraries Conference. Final presentation was by Tony Durcan, Head of Culture, LIbraries and Lifelong Learning at Newcastle, UK. He spoke on the challenges of leadership and identified “advocacy” as a key challenge. What do you think? Should we all be doing our part in advocating for our service – to other staff, to customers. Do we talk ourselves down?
